about

'4th of July' is the new single from dark alt-pop artist Leaone (‘Lee-Own’). Written and recorded in Brooklyn, NY with Lana Del Rey's longstanding band mate, Tom Marsh, and mixed by Abe Seiferth (Nation of Language, Yeasayer), ‘4th of July’ is taken from the Suffolk-based artist’s forthcoming debut album and is his first release since signing for Integrity Records.

Described by CLASH Magazine as “Emotionally downbeat but completely gripping”, earlier singles drew heady comparisons with the likes of Johnny Cash, Elliot Smith and The National, along with radio support from Huw Stephens (BBC Radio 1), Jo Whiley (BBC Radio 2), Steve Lamacq (BBC 6 Music) and Chris Hawkins (BBC 6 Music).

Adopting the idea of ‘Independence Day’ on a personal, individual level, the song is about finding and channelling your own energy and believing in yourself; staying true to your own path, and not letting others drag you down.

LYRICS

Covering up the cinders so hollow
It’s easier to cry
Shout out from the windows
It’s alright
Cos you and your body a fine wine
And everybody else thinks so

You’ve got style in a world full of fashion
And people come and go
You don’t need a limo got city bikes
Sometimes feed the sparrows get no like
We all stop and stare as you go

Throw out the trash
Let them roll their eyes
You’re coming up like the 4th of July
And if you don’t know now
Don’t let ‘em hold you down
No time to look back
They know they’re so damn wrong

Life can be a hard pill to swallow
Gets crazy I know
Pour another drink it’s closing time
And sometimes a blow out is all right
And now is the time to let go
Sweat charisma and so much compassion
And little do you know
How you rock the pink flamingo so glassy eyed
I can see your name in neon lights
Time to get on with the show

Throw out the trash
Let them roll their eyes
You’re coming up like the 4th of July
And if you don’t know now
Don’t let ‘em hold you down
No time to look back
They know they’re so damn wrong

Throw out the trash
Let them roll their eyes
You’re coming up like the 4th of July
And if you don’t know now
Don’t let ‘em hold you down
No time to look back
They know they’re so damn wrong
